Anton Hur is an author and translator based in Seoul, Korea. Having been nominated for and losing numerous translation prizes, he has now been invited to join the jury for the 2024 Dublin Literary Award. Hur’s own translations have been successful in introducing Korean literature to a wider audience and have brought him several recent accolades. Hur was the first Korean translator to be shortlisted for the Booker Prize for his translation of Bora Chung’s Cursed Bunny in 2021. As the lead translator for the BTS biography, Hur was forced into secrecy regarding the release of the K-Pop band’s memoir Beyond the Story: 10-year Record of BTS (2023).  Recently, his translation of Lee Seong-bok’s Indeterminate Inflorescence was longlisted for the National Book Critics Circle 2023 Barrios Book in Translation Prize.  Hur’s debut novel in English, Toward Eternity, is due out in 2024 and contemplates the future of humanity, nanotherapy and love.

For those interested in Hur’s reflections on the art of translation, he describes his process in the essay My Translation Method (2021). Please join us with any questions at the keynote address!
