Anke Biendarra

Associate Professor of German and European Studies

Anke Biendarra is Associate Professor of German and European Studies at the University of California, Irvine. Her research interests include German and European literature and culture of the 20th/21st century, esp. pop literature, GDR/reunification, Critical European Culture Studies, migration and memory studies, transnationalism, and gender studies. She has published widely on aspects of identity and gender, on the effects of globalization in literature and film, and on pop literature; including Germans Going Global: Contemporary Literature and Globalization (Berlin/New York, 2012); Visions of Europe. Interdisciplinary Contributions to Contemporary Cultural Debates (Frankfurt 2014). Currently, she is completing the monograph "Memories of Migration: The European Imaginary in Transcultural German-Language Literature."
