Andressa Maia
Doctoral Candidate, Department of Portuguese & Brazilian Studies, Brown University
Andressa Maia is a third-year doctoral student in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies. Her research focuses on the intersection of literature, environment and social justice in the Latin American region. She is currently exploring how contemporary Latin American literature has portrayed the impact of environmental disasters through indigenous and riverine communities' personal accounts, highlighting their historical strategies of resistance and survival. Before coming to Brown, she received her B.A. in Portuguese and Latin from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and an M.A. in Brazilian Studies from the University of New Mexico.
